Challenges

Development and implementation of planar optical diagnostics for one-phase and two-phase-flows, development and creation of special light sources, investigation of unsteady gas dynamic processes.

Basic research activities

Physical mechanisms of the effect of light on gas flows. Relaxation processes in two-phase media behind shock waves. Laser sheet visualization of unsteady and fast processes: shadow- graphy, laser sheet technique, interferometry, laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). Visualization of flow over the models based on thin-film chemical coatings: skin friction measurement by the method of liquid crystals, liquid-crystal thermography, pressure measurement on the model surface by the method of luminescent coatings. Measurement of velocity fields: PIV, PVT, speckle interferometry, spark tracer, development of algorithms and codes for processing of multi-exposure images. Temperature and heat flux measurement: thermovision, liquidcrystal thermography, spontaneous and stimulated Raman scattering. Measurement of concentrations of gas-phase components: zone-spectral visualization, LIF.
